Review: ELF Beauty Eye Manual - Everyday Eye Edition

Just like everybody else, I could not believe how time time flies! In about 29 days, we'll bid goodbye to 2011 and say hello to 2012. I am very excited to know what the year 2012 has in store for me!

Before I get oh-so giddy with the coming of a new year, I'll first keep myself busy thinking of what are the best gifts to give away this Christmas. Since budget is to be considered, I am looking for something inexpensive but useful. For makeup lovers, a palette like the ELF Beauty Eye Manual will definitely make a great gift.

I got the Everyday Eye Edition from the loot my papa sent me (read it HERE). I have been eyeing these palettes for quite some time and having it for free sends me heaven. Haha!

The 'book' includes a step-by-step guide, a page for notes, 12 eyeshadows, 1 eyeliner, 1 eyeshadow applicator, and a mirror. The packaging is made of cardboard making it lightweight.

Here are the swatches of the eyeshadows:

Note: All swatches were done WITHOUT a primer underneath.

What I LIKE about it:
  • Sleek and lightweight
  • Inexpensive -- I believe it is sold locally for only Php349.00.
  • The 'book' form makes it easier to store and carry in the purse.
  • There's a decent amount of eyeshadow.
  • Good pigmentation on most eyeshadows -- Not all eyeshadows works good. For example, eyeshadow 12 is too powdery.
  • Eyeshadow colors are great for everyday!
  • The mirror is big enough for me to see the look I'm doing.
  • The eyeliner glides on smoothly.
  • The 'book' has a garter to keeps the cover in place.

What I DON'T LIKE about it:
  • The quality of eyeshadows differ. Some works great while others are too powdery.
  • The applicator is useless!
  • The applicator and the eyeliners always fall off the 'book'.
  • Since the packaging is made of cardboard, it can easily get wet or be damaged.

Will I repurchase?
NO, I am liking the quads better than these books.

Notes:
  1. Make sure to store the 'book' in a dry place or you'll end up damaging it.
  2. For better pigmentation and color payoff, use an eyeshadow primer.
  3. Palettes like these are great for travelling and makeup gigs.
  4. The eyeliner has a tendency to smudge.
  5. Some of the ELF Beauty books are available locally.

I am loving the promos and exclusive offers of ELF. How I wish it is also applicable here in the Philippines. And oh, if you're planning to give me a gift this Christmas, a brush set and any makeup will do. Haha! :)
