Tutorial | Look : Flame

Ever since I started working full-time, I barely have time to play with my colorful eyeshadows. I don't have enough time to pile up colors on my lids given that I only have around 10 to 15 minutes to do my entire mug. With this as my everyday scenario, you can't blame me if I resort to using my neutrals most of the time which I just amp up with hints of colors once in a while. In this tutorial, I'll be showing you one of the many ways I insert colors in my neutrals. Expect more of these kind of neutral-with-a-hint-of-color type of tutorials!

For me, orange (and red and yellow and pink) eyeshadows are very tricky to play with. I have been putting on makeup for years now but I haven't really used orange eyeshadows that much. Let us just put it this way -- I just don't know what colors would look good with orange. I don't have a creative eye that's why I consider combining colors to be one of my weaknesses.

Honestly, I was a bit apprehensive in using the Virginia Olsen Minerals eyeshadow in Flame. It was so vibrant that one wrong move will eventually ruin my entire eye makeup. Since I believe that any color works good with brown shades, I tried using it as my main lid color and the turn out was just perfect! I was even told that this look is perfect for weddings. Do you think so? :)

START:

Skip the foundation first since we are working with loose eyeshadow.

1. Prime the eyes. -- This will help intensify the color of the eyeshadows and will make the eye makeup last longer.

2. Apply a white cream base to further intensify the colors that we will be using. Spread evenly all throughout the lids. -- Cream-based primers/bases will also help in the adherence of the powder eyeshadow onto the lids.

3. Pat on an orange (or any color) eyeshadow on the inner 3/4 of the lids. -- Pat not swipe! This method will ensure that the powder eyeshadow will adhere to the cream base. Don't worry if it looks messy at this point, we will be blending it afterwards.

4. Apply a dark brown eyeshadow on the outer 1/4 of the lids.

5. Carefully blend the dark brown eyeshadow going to the inner part. Follow the crease of your eyes. -- If needed, you may add more color.

6. Continue blending to get rid of the harsh lines. -- At this point, the eye makeup should look something like this.

7. Brush the same orange eyeshadow on the lower lashline. Line the outer half of the eyes with the same dark brown eyeshadow. -- Lining the outer half of the lower lashline will help making the eyes look bigger.

8. Thinly line the eyes with a black gel or liquid eyeliner. -- As much as possible, avoid dramatic looking eyeliners since we want the pop of color to be the highlight of the look.

9. Line the upper and lower rims of the eyes with a black kohl eyeliner. -- Doing such will make the eyelashes appear fuller.

10. Curl lashes and apply mascara.

Optional: Put on false eyelashes!

11. Redefine eyebrows.

12. Highlight browbones and inner corners of the eyes with a matte white eyeshadow.

13. Apply foundation.

14. Contour cheekbones and nose bridge.

15. Pat on a light pink blush.

16. Complete the look with a nude pink/peach lipstick. 

DONE!

I love how simple this look is with just a hint of color. You can do this look with any color of your choice, may it be pink, violet or even green! I am thinking of doing this exact same look with red as the maid lid color. Hmmm.
